Dr Fahy first to implant St Jude Medical Durata Defibrillation Lead in Ireland

Dr. Gerry Fahy, Consultant Cardiologist at the South Infirmary - Victoria Hospital, Cork, has become the first Cardiologist in Ireland to implant the new Durata Defibrillation Lead with SJ4 connector from St Jude Medical, with the Current Accel ™ SJ4 connection header. The implant was facilitated by staff from PEI Surgical.

The Durata from St. Jude Medical represents the latest development in the area of high voltage lead technology.

This implant is the first of its kind to be implanted and so this is a great achievement for Dr. Fahy, whose clinical interests include radiofrequency ablation, cardiac pacemakers and cardiac arrhythmias.

This implant is unique as the SJ4 connector offers physicians simplicity and speed of implant by reducing defibrillation connections from three to one and by minimizing the number of set screws. This Durata™ Defibrillation Lead with SJ4 Connector is unique as it has an in-line design with electrode connections on a single terminal pin. This offers physicians simplicity and speed of implant by reducing defibrillation connections from three to one and by minimizing the number of set screws. Current Accel ™ with SJ4 Connection Header has a single terminal pin connection which decreases the chances of lead-to-port mismatch and can reduce implant time and streamline the procedure.

Most notably its 7 year warranty offers patients and physician’s reassurance, safety and reliance.

Dr. Fahy was delighted with the procedure.  “This is a well designed lead which I will use along with all St Jude ICD Implants from now on.  Box changes will be much easier with this lead”
