Inaugural 5KM Charity Run Success

As well as a packed academic agenda at the Irish Cardiac Society Meeting 2010 in Rosses Point, Sligo, this year's meeting also saw the hosting of a novel and worthy 5KM charity run. The run, organised by PEI, in conjunction with  the Irish Cardiac Society was held on Friday, 8th October, starting and ending at the conference venue - The Radisson Blu Hotel, Sligo. All proceeds from the run, both registration fees and donations, will go directly to the Irish Heart Foundation.

While the early start of 7.30am may have been enough to put some off, the event was well attended with several hospitals being represented; in particular, St. Vincent's University Hospital, The Hermitage Medical Clinic, University Hospital Galway, AMNCH Tallaght, and of course, Sligo General Hospital. St. Jude Medical, PEI, the Irish Heart Foundation and a number of other supply companies were also represented.

The event took the the runners along a relatively challenging route taking in some beautiful scenery in the Cregg, Springfield and Ballinvoher regions of Rosses Point along the way. While some participants walked the route, others jogged or ran. The first past the finish line was Laura Moylan, Cardiac Physiologist at University Hospital Galway, with David Muldoon, Northwest Regional Fundraiser for the Irish Heart Foundation coming in second and Tony McEntee, PEI coming third.

Thanks to all who supported the event - participants, the local gardai, the Order of Malta ambulance service, the Radisson Blu, the local County Council and all others who helped out - your help was greatly appreciated!
