PEI Supports Surgical Skills for Radiology

As part of PEI's ongoing commitment to education, members of the Cardiac team recently participated in the Surgical Skills for Radiology Day in The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The day is organised by Dr David Brophy, Consultant Vascular and Interventional Radiologist & Senior Clinical Lecturer, University College Dublin & St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin; and aims to cover requisite skills utilised by registrars on the radiology scheme, in their day-to-day clinical practice.

The day is further facilitated by other clinical interventional radiologists from centres around the country. Anne Dempsey and Myra Walshe from PEI’s cardiac team were in attendance, allowing participants to practice their vascular puncture and closure techniques using a wet-lab from St Jude Medical, which simulates puncturing a pulsating femoral artery and allows visualisation of the closure device in a vessel during and after deployment.

PEI is always pleased to support such educational days and hope to continue to participate in more of these successful days in the future.
