PEI Exhibit at the Irish Congress of Anaesthesia Meeting 2011

PEI attended the recent Congress of Anaesthesia, which was held in the National Conference Centre, Dublin. PEI displayed both the NeuroTherm 2000 radiofrequency pain management device and consumables. This generated much interest amongst those anaesthetists interested in pain management.  PEI also displayed the CardioQ Oesophageal Doppler Monitor, which had just recently received NICE Guideline Recommendation. This was a timely opportunity to demonstrate the CardioQ in Ireland as one of the key sessions/debates focussed on intra-operative fluid management.

Key speakers at this event included Dr Tom Ryan, St James’ Hospital, Dublin, Dr Monty Mythen University College Hospital, London and Dr Gary Minto, Plymouth, Devon. In addition, Dr Michael McKenny, presented research findings from St James’s Hospital, which examined the impact of ODM on patient outcomes, complication rates and length of stay. The positive findings demonstrated a length of stay of 5 days in the ODM group vs. 6.5 in the control group, no critical care admission in the ODM group vs. 3 in the control group and finally lower complication rates amongst the ODM group. This meeting was attended by Anaesthetic Consultants and NCHDs from throughout Ireland and internationally, which supported interesting and lively debate at many of the sessions.
