Debating Solutions in Total Hip Replacement Meeting

The “Debating Solutions in Total Hip Replacement” meeting took place in Rome between May 26th and 28th last. The meeting consisted of three distinct parts which combine to form an interesting and informative forum for discussion, as well as a chance to learn more about DePuy’s latest implant offerings. As the title of the symposium “Debating Solutions in Total Hip Replacement” implies, the meeting was an interactive forum, with numerous opportunities for discussion and engagement with fellow surgeons as well as the invited faculty.

The meeting opened with the international launch of the Tri-Lock®  stem, with live surgery coming from Mr Derek Bennett in Castlebar, and Belfast’s Mr Ian Brown on the faculty. Dr William Healy and Dr Vincent Pellegrini, design surgeons of the Tri-Lock® stem, completed what was an impressive line-up.The Tri-Lock®  Bone Preserving Stem - Learning Centre reviewed clinical results, the history and evolution of the Tri-Lock® Bone Preserving Stem as well as providing delegates with an opportunity to discuss tissue sparing surgical techniques (e.g. the direct anterior approach).

Debating Solutions in Total Hip Replacement”, Module 1 focused on the “High Stability and Low Wear for all patients”. It addressed options in the evolution of acetabular technology considering the bearing options available for today’s surgeon. Also of interest was a very topical issue - the importance of correct cup positioning. Delegates had the opportunity to engage with peers and faculty via seminars, practical workshops, active debates and clinical case discussions on the subject of acetabular bearing technology.

Module 2: “The Need for Conservative Revision” was aimed at those surgeons with a specific interest in revision hip arthroplasty. This symposium considered the need for Conservative Revision and offered delegates the opportunity to engage with peers and faculty via seminars, practical workshops and clinical case discussions on the subject of revision hip arthroplasty and the opportunity to improve patient outcomes through Conservative Revision.
