New Study Shows Arthritis Sufferers Need Exercise

A new study from Arthritis Ireland has found that many arthritis sufferers are not taking the necessary exercise needed to help their condition, despite scientific evidence showing the benefits of exercise on symptoms of arthritis.

The six-month nationwide study found that nearly two out of three people with arthritis avoid regular activity due to high levels of pain or from fear of worsening their condition.

It also found that walking is the most popular exercise amongst sufferers, with 50% of participants describing it as their activity of choice.

To help encourage people with arthritis to take gentle exercise the support group has launched the ‘Get Your Joints in Motion’ campaign, which culminates with a walk in Phoenix Park on 5th May.
