UK’s Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) awards the C-STEM™ AMT system a 7A rating

The UK’s Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) has recently awared the DePuy Synthes C-STEM™ AMT hip system a 7A rating.

The ODEP was set up to monitor NICE guidance on primary hip implants in 2002 and hip resurfacing in 2004. The Panel provides on-going assessment of hip implants to benchmark both hip femoral stems and hip acetabular cups against NICE guidance, providing a rating for implant survivorship and data submission quality. The Panel accepts data submissions for hips bi-annually in spring and autumn with regular meetings to discuss and review improvements to the process scheduled throughout the year. The ODEP rating is now a commonly used benchmark not just in the UK but globally.

Key findings:

A consecutive cohort of 415 hip arthroplasties in 386 patients using the C-Stem AMT at a non-developer centre (Avon Orthopaedic Centre) at 99 month follow up (8 years 3 months), were found to have a stem survivorship of 96.9% (95% CI 82.5–99.5), and construct survivorship of 96.0% (95% CI 84.2–99.0).2

When the C-Stem and Pinnacle® were combined, featuring all bearing combinations, an unadjusted Kaplan-Meier survival analysis with an end point of revision of any component for any cause was shown to have a survivorship of 7 years in 97.89% of cases (CI 95% 96.89, 98.57%).3

When the C-Stem AMT and Pinnacle® were combined, featuring a Ceramic on Ceramic combination, an unadjusted Kaplan-Meier survival analysis with an end point of revision for any cause was shown to have a survivorship at 7 years of 98.28% of cases (CI 95% 95.97, 99.27%).3
