9th Irish Sleep Society Meeting

ResMed PEI attended the 9th Scientific and Annual General Meeting of the Irish Sleep society which took place on Saturday, 16th February, 2013 at the Carlton Hotel, Dublin Airport.

The meeting was very well attended with over 40 key clinicians working in the area of Sleep attending from North and South of the border, including representation from Altnegelvin Hospital, Belfast City Trust, all major Dublin sleep centres, Sligo General Hospital, Limerick Regional Hospital, and the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee.

Key note speaker was Prof. Des O Neill, National Programme Director for the Joint RCPI-RSA Traffic Medicine Initiative who spoke about the ‘New Fitness to Drive Guidelines’ which have been published and sent to all GPs. Under these new guidelines it is the patient's responsibility to notify the driving Licensing Authority if he or she has Sleep Apnoea and
driving must cease until satisfactory control of symptoms has been attained.

Also, speaking at the meeting were Dr. Elaine Purcell, Ms. Sarah Keane and Dr. Silke Ryan, who considered the topic "Sleepiness and the tools used in its diagnosis".
