PEI Announces Barretstown as 2012 CSR Partner

PEI is pleased to announce that its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Partner for 2012 is Barretstown children’s camp.

Barretstown is a specially-designed camp at a castle in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains that provides Therapeutic Recreation programmes for children affected by cancer and their families.
It was founded by Hollywood actor Paul Newman in 1994 and modelled on his renowned Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut, USA.

The children, from 7 to 17, come from Ireland and across Europe to take part in activities such as canoeing, high ropes, drama and arts and crafts. Through their achievements they regain confidence and self-esteem and their own inner strength.

PEI’s involvement with Barretstown includes funding medical volunteers for a full year (including their expenses) and organising several fundraising events.

The company is also currently in discussions with Barretstown to arrange for a Volunteer Day for PEI staff at the camp itself.
