NICE recommends CardioQ-ODM for Invasive Cardiac Monitoring

PEI recently published a news item discussing the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence’s (NICE) recommendation that CardioQ-ODM be considered for use in patients undergoing major or high-risk surgery. It is worth noting that NICE also recommended the use of CardioQ-ODM in other instances where cardiac monitoring may be considered. In a report published in March this year, entitled CardioQ-ODM Oesophageal Doppler Monitor (which can be downloaded on the right), NICE stated:

“The Committee concluded that the available data support a clinical benefit and a cost saving when the CardioQ-ODM is used in patients undergoing major or high-risk surgery or other surgical patients in whom a clinician would consider using invasive cardiac monitoring”.

The same report also highlighted the main benefits of using the CardioQ-ODM, which include a reduction in the following:  

• post-operative complications; 

• use of central venous catheters; 

• hospital stays; 

• re-admission rates 

The benefits imply a significant cost saving per patient for healthcare providers. 

Therefore, considering NICE’s evidence it is apparent that there are significant benefits to be gained from using the CardioQ-ODM for invasive cardiac monitoring.
